Cruises From Harwich

Harwich is a small port town, nestled along the coast of Essex in the south of England. It is graced by the surrounding hills of England’s iconic countryside, dotted with picturesque villages, rolling farmland, rivers, meadows and ancient woodlands.

In Harwich itself, there are a few charming attractions to visit. The city’s Electric Palace cinema is one of the oldest in Britain with its silent screen, original projection room and ornamental frontage still intact. The Redoubt Fort dates from the Napoleonic era and now houses an interesting museum while Harwich’s beaches are lined with colourful beach huts and two old lighthouses.

Just south of Harwich lies Suffolk’s Stour Valley, with its soft, pastoral landscape that has inspired some of Britain’s most famous artists and painters. It is dotted with pretty, medieval villages of timber-framed houses and elegant churches from the 15th century weaving boom. Nearby, Colchester is the oldest recorded town in England and grew to become the first Roman capital as well as Britain’s earliest city. Today, its attractive old buildings still stand along the crumbing Roman walls and a Norman castle founded by William the Conquer himself.
