There are many nations around the world with bragging rights to miles of pristine white coral sand and balmy turquoise seas but few can take it to the same level as the Maldives. Its 1,200 islands are spread out over 26 coral atolls; the combined land of all the islands is little more than 100 square miles. That means you are rarely more than a few steps from the beach. Many of the villas are actually built on stilts out over the water, so you may actually have to walk onshore in order to get to the beach. Besides curling your toes in the sand, many people come here to sample the Maldives enviable world-class dive spots. Others simply snorkel among the endless coral reefs. There are so many coral atolls here that our English word derives from the Maldivian name atholhu. Fly to Malé - Transfer from your hotel to Colombo airport for the 1hr 25 min flight to the Maldivian capital Malé. Alimatha Sandbank - Early this morning we cross the channel into the Vaavu Felidu Atoll. The ship’s tender makes trips in the morning and afternoon to the splendid Alimatha sandbank – you can choose to go on just one or both trip to the sandbank. While here, relax on the gleaming white sand wade in the warm waters of the sweeping turquoise lagoon, snorkel on the reef, or take a barefoot stroll. You can also enjoy an early morning snorkelling session on Dhiggiri Thila, home to nurse sharks and sting rays (additional fees apply). There are visits in the morning and afternoon to Oshagali Finolhu, a wonderful sandbank with a stunning sea-green lagoon and a surrounding reef, making snorkelling an absolute dream. Late afternoon, we will visit Dhagenthi Island to experience the local lifestyle and it is a good opportunity to shop shoulder to shoulder with the locals. Included experience - Morning visit to Oshagali Sandbank and afternoon visit to Dhagenthi Island.

Ariadhoo Desert Island - Your cruise continues to Ariadhoo, an uninhabited agricultural island lush with vegetation. Relax on the soft warm sand, cool off with a dip in the ocean, or snorkel to discover more of the wonderful marine life. This region boasts exceptional sighting records of whale sharks. For a small additional charge payable locally, you may wish to take a boat out with local guides and go in search of these gentle giants! The Maldives is one of the few places on earth where whale sharks may be encountered year-round. This afternoon we visit the inhabited island of Maamigili, for a closer look at local life and the opportunity to indulge in some retail therapy.
