MS Fridtjof Nansen is the latest addition to Hurtigruten’s fleet of custom built ships – and the next generation expedition ship. She will explore some of the most spectacular corners of the globe.

Featuring Hurtigruten's revolutionary battery hybrid powered propulsion∘ system, MS Fridtjof Nansen will be a near identical twin to her sister ship MS Roald Amundsen.

Combining state of the art technology∘ premium on board experience with Hurtigruten’s 125 years of experience and unparalleled∘ destinations, the two Norwegian built ships introduces the next generation of adventure travel.

It is not common practice to tip on Hurtigruten ships∘ on the expedition voyage, but if you feel that crew members should be rewarded for providing exceptional service, tip boxes are placed in the restaurant together with envelopes.  

Scandinavian materials∘ from nature, such as granite∘, oak, birch and wool will be used to create relaxed and stylish cabins∘ and public areas. All cabins are outside, 50 % will have private balconies, aft suites will feature private outdoor hot tubs with spectacular views.

MS Fridtjof Nansen's three restaurants will host a variety of dining options, with menus drawn from our rich Norwegian and Nordic tradition, as well as international cuisine and local inspiration.

Whether enjoying your meal at Aune Main Dining, Fredheim – the informal international meeting place, or the specialty restaurant Lindstrøm, you will indulge in low key yet refined, modern Norwegian Nordic cooking – where our honest and delicious cuisine reflects our destinations.

We offer a selection of excursions that can be pre-booked with only remaining places sold on board. We do advise that you book well in advance in order to avoid disappointment due to the excursion being fully booked. Please note that registration is binding and once on board the Expedition Team will advise you of booking deadlines for excursions still available.

Our excursions have English speaking guides unless otherwise indicated and other languages cannot be guaranteed. Excursions are subject to cancellation due to weather conditions and dependent on number of participants. All expedition shore landings and small boat cruising during our call in Antarctica are included the program. All excursions are subject to availability.

Along with the optional excursions available to book, the Expedition Team also arrange a variety of activities during the voyage. These will depend on location and season, but may include hiking, small boat cruising, kayaking, snowshoeing or camping. A limited amount of kayaking is available for booking prior to select voyages, but all other activities are booked on board and subject to availability.

An expedition cruise with Hurtigruten is rigged towards maximizing your experiences of the places we are going to. On days when we are not landing we encourage you to spend as much time as possible out on deck. Join our educational talks and lectures at different locations on board. A travel experience is often much richer if you have knowledge and understanding about the nature, wildlife, culture and history of your destination.

Our Expedition Team will make sure you are well prepared for the experiences ahead of you. They will also re-capitulate and answer questions in hindsight. You will not find bingo, arcade games and entertainment theatres often found on conventional cruise ships. Our aim is to get you closer to unique environments and to allow you to share the experience with your fellow travellers. Occasionally there may be some light entertainment on board in the evenings.

After a day of exploring new destinations, guests can relax and rejuvenate in the elegant Explorer Lounge, a large gym∘ and Wellness center, or enjoy the scenery and sunsets on the massive in- and outdoor Observation Decks∘ with the aft infinity pool and hot tubs as one of the highlights.

There is no age restriction on our other destinations∘. For safety reasons, children under 12 years of age will be considered on each landing. It is entirely at the Captain’s discretion to allow children∘ on shore landings.

There is a playroom available for children.

Young Explorer is a complimentary, year-round programme∘ on selected Hurtigruten ships for curious and active youth aged 7-13 years of age.
